Cleaning Tip 3

WALLS BUILD UP BACTERIA, SCUM AND DEAD MICROORGANISMS OVER TIME SO BE SURE TO INCORPORATE THEM INTO YOUR MONTHLY CLEANING ROUTINE.  BE SURE TO DUST YOUR WALLS OFF BEFORE CLEANING THEM WITH NON-ABRASIVE CLEANING SOLUTION!
We all tend to forget about our walls when performing daily chores or doing our routine house cleaning but they are one of the most important areas that need to be maintained.  Dirt and oils from hands, bacteria, dead microorganisms, smoke, dust and debris from HVAC systems all camp out on your interior walls and reduce the quality of the air that you breathe.  By incorporating them into your monthly routine, you not only keep your home brighter but decrease the potential risk to your family’s health.
Be sure to rid the walls of dust before you begin cleaning.  Use your vacuum hose attachment and run it over the walls.  You definitely want to ascertain what kind of paint is on your walls.  Semi-gloss or enamel are made for a good washing but eggshell, satin and flat paints lack the same durability and may rub off if you use too harsh of a cleanser or scrub too hard.
You want to use the most mild cleanser you have that will still eliminate dirt.  Try warm water and dishwashing soap at first or move up to a cleaning solution comprised of 1 cup of ammonia, 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of baking soda in 1 gallon of warm water.  Use a sponge to wipe the wall and a clean towel to dry the wall and prevent streaking or water damage.  Tougher stains may require more of a baking soda and water concoction.  Always start from the top and work your way down and make sure your sponge is damp, not soaking wet.
So you don’t cross-contaminate, be sure to have a container of your solution and a separate container of water only to rinse with.
